A long overdue 104. This is the third or fourth attempt at recording this Episode, after tryca.st failed us. And then failed us again. Lesson learned, we are back to using Zencastr, even if it doesn't sound as hot. These are the woes of being cutting edge.

A lot of hate on the Overnight Drive Friend Zone in this episode, which, if I know the internet, means that there will be a lot of people joining after hearing it. This is normally where I would give you the link, but it's late and I think the Facebook full browser page is a stress nightmare realized, so I'm not going to hunt for the link. If you downloaded a podcast, you probably know how to internet well enough to search a group on Facebook.

As a bit of a disclaimer, this episode is both noise and intense. We do an "everyone around the microphone" format with recurring guests Gabri, Blake Schwarzenbach, and his three cats. This is an off the cuff bonus episode. Think of it like a monster-of-the-week episode from the X-Files; cool, but not part of the larger overall story arc.

Planned Brotherhood was the first podcast I ever really got into. It was just so weird, and so unrehearsed, and so subtle. I absolutely loved it. They stopped a few years ago, which made me sad, but what is much more sad is that recently, PJ Ahlers, one of the co-hosts, was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer and given 2-3 years to live, with treatment. What the fuck, right? Guy is 32, has a family, and doesn't have time or patience for this shit.

So his family have started a fundraiser to help offset the costs of his treatment bills, living expenses since he can't very well work a bartending job after a round of chemo, and all the other insane costs that come with living in a country where medical care is treated as a privilege and not a basic human right. The most important thing in beating cancer is keeping stress low and keeping focus on a positive outcome. If this dude can live without worry that his water is going to be shut off or some shit, it will go a long way in helping him to recovery.

They've set a goal of $10,000 in 90 days. I think that's modest, so I'm setting a totally untestable goal of $20,000 in 60 days. Seems reasonable, right?

Here's the deal. I know most of you aren't in a position to donate $50 to a podcaster you've maybe never heard of, because another podcaster you sort of know asked you to. I get that. But $5? That's no big, right? Shit, if everybody who downloaded Episode 81 gave $5, we would make a pretty big dent.

This actually came together really well. Podcasts are weird because you have very little raw data to go on as to who enjoys it. Download numbers are too skewed to use, reviews are spotty, and people you know are like "Oh hey you're doing that radio thing, right? no it's cool!" No fucking help.

But a lot of people came out and we had a really good time! Not at all what I had expected, but it was dope. Maybe we'll try a full hour next time...
